Dr Gillian Koh is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Policy Studies.
Dr Gillian Koh contributes to the work in the Institute of Policy Studies’ Politics and Governance cluster.
The on-going research interests of the cluster include the nature of state-society relations and the development of civil society in Singapore; electoral politics; and the political values of Singaporeans. One other area the desk explores is the nature of social resilience of Singaporeans in the face of internal and external security threats.
Dr Koh’s current project focuses on developing scenarios of Singapore in 2030. She has also been developing the agenda at the Institute on social entrepreneurship, venture philanthropy and microfinance through a series of discussions and seminars. Previous projects include a survey on voting attitudes of Singaporeans, a study of the process of public consultation here, and a tri-city study of social entrepreneurship that includes cases in Hong Kong, and Taipei.
She is the Publications Coordinator at the Institute and the convenor of IPS’ occasional Young Singaporeans Conference.
She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree (1988) from the National University of Singapore, a Master of Arts degree (1990) in Third World Studies at the Department of Sociological Studies, University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, and a PhD in Sociology from the same department and university in 1995.
