Synopsis

 

 

Fraud remains one of the most problematic issues for businesses worldwide. Rapid economic growth present opportunities as well as challenges in detecting and deterring fraud for businesses.

 

Into its fourth edition, the biennial PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Global Economic Crime Survey interviewed over 5,400 respondents in 40 countries for an in-depth look into the causes of economic crime and the ways in which it affects businesses worldwide.

 

The speakers will address the following concerns and more at the event:

  • How does the Singapore economic crime trend compare to the last survey trend in 2005?

  • Which is the most prevalent economic crime?

  • What is the most effective method for discovery and prevention of economic crime?

  • How can Singapore companies move from detection to prevention of economic crime?

 

 

 

Speaker's Profile

 

 

Mr Subramaniam Iyer

Subra Iyer started his career as an auditor and has since been exposed to many different practice areas of the firm. Subra has been with the firm for over 20 years and was involved in internal control reviews, transaction advisory (commercial and financial due diligence), strategic reviews including review of business plans, client training and location advisory.

 

Subra leads his team of forensic specialists and insolvency practitioners in fraud and forensic investigations, restructure of companies including business reviews and also serves as a judicial manager and liquidator of several companies. He also acts as an expert witness in Court and arbitration matters.

 

While on secondment to the firm's Melbourne office, he completed his Professional Year programme and became an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.  He is currently a practising member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Singapore (ICPAS), an approved company liquidator and a Certified Fraud Examiner. He is a Director of the Insolvency Practitioners Association of Singapore Limited and also serves as a committee member of ICPAS’ Insolvency Practices Committee.  Subra graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours).

 

Associate Professor Alexander Loke

Alexander F H Loke LLB (Hons) (NUS) LLM (Columbia) is an Associate Professor with research interests in contract law, international business transactions, corporate finance and securities regulation. He was Visiting Associate Professor, East China University (2002), Visiting Scholar, Columbia University (2000-2001), and Visiting Lecturer, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (1999). He was a contributor to Halsbury Laws of Singapore vol 7: Contracts and is author of numerous publications. A full list of his publications can be found here.
